We, which is to say my associates and I at M. V. Kini &
Co., celebrated our firm’s Pearl Anniversary in 2008, thirty
fruitful years of service to our valued clients.
As I look back on our long journey since 1978 I cannot help
but marvel at how far we have come. We started with but a
single office in Bombay (as Mumbai was then called), and have
since expanded into what may well be one of the largest legal
chains in India, with over 150 lawyers serving in Delhi,
Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune, Allahabad, Chandigarh and
Lucknow — and with associates throughout India, the United
States and in Europe for good measure.
When we began, the aviation sector was a government-owned
monopoly, environmental law was in its infancy, and the WTO
simply did not exist. Today, of course, these are among the
factors that anyone wishing to operate on a global scale must
consider — and I would like to affirm that M. V. Kini & Co.
was not merely among the first in India to recognise in these
sectors but that it is still ranked among the best.
Even Dealogic’s Global Project Finance Review (2009) listed
M.V. Kini & Co. among the Top Five Legal Advisers for Global
PFI/PPP Project Finance Deals, having handled U.S. $1.376
billion.
But the law is a work in progress, and so must law firms be.
Today, we offer a gamut of services from ‘A’ (Arbitration)
to‘W’ (WTO). Who knows what the ‘X’ factor to follow shall be?
But, whatever challenges the years to come may throw at us our
clients are assured of the ‘Z’ at M. V. Kini & Co. — our
‘ZEAL’.
